Dr. Chan is a very passionate doctor that make sure that any visual needs their patients may have are met and exceeded.

Dry Eye is a common issue the doctors are seeing among their patients, so we have brought in the latest technology to help those patients that suffer from Dry Eye.

Below are some of the symptoms patients may experience.

  • Burning and redness
  • Ocular fatigue
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Excessive tearing
  • Symptoms worsen later in the day
  • Transient blurring
  • Contact lens intolerance
What is the latest technology you ask?

Well there's the Lipiview, used for diagnosing. Studies have shown that 86% of dry eye patients have Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) as a primary cause of dry eye. It is important to test for MGD to direct treatment appropriately. The core tests for MGD include measuring lipid layer thickness and partial blinks; utilizing a standardized, repeatable evaluation of meibomian glands; gland imaging and by assessing lid closure by looking at partial blink (LipiView®II), lagophthalmos (staining), and/or inadequate lid seal (KB light test). These tests provide data to better understand the meibomian function and structure. Other core tests may be needed to identify the cause and direct the treatment for aqueous deficient dry eye, ocular allergy and autoimmune disease.

Lipiflow machineThen there's the Lipiflow, which is the machine that is used to most accurately treat patients with certain diagnoses. The LipiFlow® Activator, a single-use sterile device, safely and comfortably delivers automated therapeutic energies to each meibomian gland while protecting the delicate structures of the patient’s eye. Supported by 36 patents and seven years of dedicated research, LipiFlow® provides a level of accuracy and quality that allows eye care professionals to treat their MGD patients with confidence and ease.

Lipiflow imageIts contoured design vaults the cornea and protects the eye allowing a maximum therapeutic temperature of 43 degrees Celsius to reach glands from the inner eyelid, without damaging the eyelid or delicate structures of the globe. Space-age insulation protects the cornea from exceeding a safe 39.5 degrees Celsius, while an intelligent pressure feedback loop sends pulsed sequences to expel blockages. Force equalization protects the globe from pressure transmission by focusing energy only on the eyelid.

Delivered through the LipiFlow® Activator, Vectored Thermal Pulse™ (VTP) technology maximizes results while delivering patient comfort. VTP™ uniquely applies a combination of heat and pressure to the inner eyelid to safely remove gland obstructions and stagnant gland content. Patented vectored heat and adaptive force equalization targets the pulse, heat, and pressure on the meibomian glands to maximize effectiveness. Therapeutic motion provides proximal to distal parastalsis to clear gland contents.
